Our approach to house renovation and remodelling is to consider the property as a whole, creating a more natural relationship between spaces, improving natural light and circulation, and bringing the architecture into closer alignment with contemporary life.
House remodelling does not necessarily mean adding more space. Some of the most transformative renovations are achieved entirely within the existing footprint. Relocating a staircase, opening or closing a wall, altering the relationship between rooms or changing the way a space is entered can have a profound effect on how a home feels and functions. We consider the movement of natural light throughout the day, the proportions of each room, views towards the garden and the relationship between private and sociable spaces, using these qualities to create a more coherent and considered plan.
Older and period properties often possess architectural qualities that are worth preserving, while later alterations can obscure much of what made the original building distinctive. Our period property renovation and refurbishment work seeks to uncover and enhance these qualities, whether through reinstating original proportions, recovering historic openings, repairing architectural details or removing unsympathetic alterations. Where appropriate, new interventions are deliberately contemporary, allowing old and new to sit comfortably together. For listed building renovations and properties within conservation areas, we take a particularly sensitive approach, considering the building's architectural significance, historic fabric and wider setting from the outset.
